  • The Chandeleurs are a chain of islands, including Breton Island, Grand Gosier Islands and Curlew Island, located roughly 96 km east of New Orleans and 48 km south of Biloxi, Mississippi. The Chandeleur Islands are the remnant of a former Mississippi River delta. The islands were discovered and named after religious celebration known as La Fete de la Chandeleur, or Candlemas Day in English, by the French who first settled there in the early 1700s. The outlines of the islands have been described as a crescent-shaped archipelago. The islands have three lighthouses, each standing as a giant candle at the northern end of the island chain. The Chandeleur Islands create a buffer zone between the Gulf and the mainland, protecting the New Orleans area from the wind and storm surge associated with hurricanes. Hurricane Georges in 1998 destroyed most of the island chain, but various projects are currently underway to help the islands heal themselves. Much of the island chain lies within the Breton National Wildlife Refuge in the Gulf of Mexico. The Chandeleur Islands are a key fish habitat.

 Product Description

The Chandeleur Island chain south of the Mississippi coast and east of the Louisiana delta in the Gulf of Mexico. This chain of islands is generally, very shallow and well suited for wade fishing. There is a lot of sea grass and hard sandy bottom. The islands are accessible only by boat through the deeper Gulf waters. Once there, however, the fishing can be very rewarding. The primary fish species that are sought are redfish and speckled trout. Other deeper water fish species such as sharks and jacks also forage the islands and offer an exciting fishing bonus.

When you purchase Angler Products Fishing Hotspots on a chip you'll get a preloaded card that works with your GPS model and detailed, easy to follow installation instructions.

Please note: These are locations in a waypoint format that quickly and easily load to your GPS. They are not maps or charts.
